Being open on platforms doesn’t mean being open all the time. Each hour of opening has a fixed cost (electricity, staff, wear and tear). If some slots generate less revenue than their costs, you lose money by staying open.
Start by exporting your sales data by the hour. Both platforms offer detailed reports. Identify the time slots or the number of orders falling below your profitability threshold (generally 3-4 orders per hour).
The most profitable time slots are generally 12pm-2pm and 7pm-9pm during the week, with variations on weekends or peak hours when the hours extend. Sunday evenings are often an underestimated slot but very profitable.
Strategically test new time slots. Breakfast delivery (8am-10am) is a growing market with little competition. Afternoon (3pm-5pm) can work for desserts and beverages. Measure for 4 weeks before deciding.
Don’t forget the impact on the algorithm. Platforms favorize restaurants with wide and regular hours. If you reduce your hours, do it gradually and maintain a constant presence during your key times.
