Delivery drivers are partners, not adversaries. A driver who knows your restaurant well and enjoys coming will handle your dishes better and be more patient in case of delays.
Offer a comfortable waiting area: a chair, a glass of water, and optionally coffee. These small attentions cost almost nothing but create a positive relationship.
Simplify retrieval: clear signage stating “Delivery drivers here,” readily available and easily identifiable bags (customer name visible), and a fast delivery process. Every minute saved makes the delivery driver more satisfied.
Clearly communicate special instructions. If a dish is fragile or must be transported flat, tell the delivery person. An “Attention, soup – to be transported flat, please” will avoid many damages.
In case of a problem (delivery delay, order not picked up), remain professional. Report the problem to the platform rather than confronting the delivery person. Conflicts resolve nothing.
Regular delivery drivers become your ambassadors. They recommend your restaurant to hesitant clients and take care of your orders. Cultivate these relationships.
