Regulation is evolving rapidly: ban on single-use plastics, obligation to sort waste, extended producer responsibility. Anticipating these changes is a necessity, not a luxury.
Cardboard containers are 10 to 20% more expensive than plastic, but they have a major marketing advantage: customers perceive them as more qualitative and more responsible.
Sugarsacks (sugar cane fiber) containers are an excellent alternative for hot dishes. They withstand heat, the microwave, and compost. The cost is comparable to quality food-grade plastic.
Eliminate plastic cutlery and offer wooden or bamboo cutlery. Even better: ask the customer if they want cutlery (checkbox on platforms). 40% of customers eat at home and don’t need it.
Communicate on your commitments. Add a message to your bag or card: “We use 100% compostable packaging.” This is a selling point, especially with urban, young customers.
