Insulated packaging for delivery: a complete guide to choosing and using the right containers

Delivery 8 min de lecture 28 novembre 2025

Insulated packaging is often the neglected afterthought of delivery investments. Restaurateurs spend hours optimizing their menus, photos, and prices, but they overlook the final link in the chain: maintaining temperature during transport. A study of online delivery reviews shows that temperature is mentioned in 62% of negative reviews – far ahead of taste or presentation as the primary cause of customer dissatisfaction.

Standard insulated bags provided by Uber Eats and Deliveroo have limited effectiveness. Designed to be generic, they maintain temperature for 15 to 20 minutes in good conditions. Beyond that, heat loss becomes significant. If your delivery area extends beyond 3 kilometers, or if you deliver in winter, these standard bags are insufficient. You need to invest in your own containers.

The best solutions on the market in 2025 are double-walled cardboard boxes (for pizzas), professional insulated bags with reinforced aluminum lining and a strengthened zipper closure (for hot dishes), and recyclable expanded polystyrene containers (for soups and saucy dishes). The cost ranges from €0.15 per unit for the double-walled cardboard to €25-50 for a high-quality reusable insulated bag.

For restaurants that deliver multiple dishes (starters + main courses + desserts), the double bag system is recommended: one warm bag for hot dishes, a cold bag (with ice packs) for cold appetizers and desserts. Certainly, this doubles the packaging cost, but customer reviews and the enhanced quality justify it significantly. Expect approximately €0.40 to €0.60 per order for this double bag system.

Packaging is also a communication tool. Packaging with your image, your logo, your colors, and a personalized message creates a memorable “unboxing” experience. Studies show that orders with branded packaging generate 23% more positive reviews than orders in neutral packaging. Investment in personalized packaging is recouped in a few months through improved ratings and word-of-mouth.

For practical supply questions, contact Lekuos, Raja, Emballage Express, or directly the food service suppliers (Metro, Promocash). Compare prices by ordering in bulk: rates can be halved to two-thirds between an order of 100 units and an order of 1000 units. Also negotiate delivery times to never be out of packaging on a Friday evening.
