The KFC Map in France: A Growing Network
With approximately 380 restaurants claimed by the chain by the end of 2024, KFC is the third-largest fast-food chain in France behind McDonald’s (1,530) and Burger King (~500). Its growth has doubled its park in 10 years.
Distribution in Our Database
Our SIRENE indexing records 28 franchised KFC companies operating 163 declared establishments, of which 139 are open. This represents approximately 40% of the chain’s actual park – a coverage exceeding that of McDonald’s (where most franchisees have company names like SARL that do not contain “McDonald’s”).

Strategic Reading
The strength of the urban mesh – Paris, Nord, Rhône, Haute-Garonne: KFC is very present in major urban centers and their peripheries. This concentration aligns with the main demographic target (young adults 18-35, urban middle classes).
The Ile-de-France hub – Paris + Seine-Saint-Denis + Val-d’Oise + Val-de-Marne represent ~40 of the 28 tagged companies. This is the most densely covered area, and where competition with McDonald’s and Burger King is most direct.
The Lyon hub – Rhône (13) + Isère (6): a true development hub with well-established multi-site franchisees for a long time.
The Southern Mediterranean hub – Bouches-du-Rhône + Hérault: strong growth in the last 5 years, capitalizing on tourism and the youth of the area.
Untapped Zones
Unlike McDonald’s which covers almost the entire territory, KFC leaves large areas un-covered:
- Massif Central: Cantal, Lozère, Creuse, Corrèze, Aveyron – almost zero KFC
- Brittany interior: Interior Finistère and Côtes-d’Armor under-covered
- Rural Northeast: Vosges, Haute-Saône, Doubs interior
- Corsica: zero restaurants in 2024
These zones constitute the priority implantation opportunities over the 2025-2035 decade, within the necessary population density limit (a KFC ideally requires 30,000 inhabitants in its catchment area).
Target 600+ by 2028
KFC France has publicly announced a target of 600+ restaurants by 2027-2028. At 50 openings per year, this target is achievable. Franchise profiles seeking multi-site contracts will find this territory particularly active.
